Indian institute of Technology Kharagpur

The history of the IIT system dates back to 1946 when a committee was set up by Hon’ble Sir Jogendra Singh, Member of the Viceroy’s Executive Council, Department of Education, Health and Agriculture to consider the setting up of Higher Technical Institutions for post war industrial development in India

Campus

  • Kharagpur can be reached in about 2 hours by train from Howrah railway station of Kolkat he Institute is about 10 minutes drive (5 km) from the Kharagpur railway station a or 3 hours by car from Kolkata Airport.
  • Winter (October to February) is moderate (10 to 25 C) in Kharagpur. Summer (March to June) is hot (25 to 40 C) and sometimes humid. Rains are normally confined to the months of June to September.
  • Students are accommodated in 20 Halls of Residence and the staff is provided with quaters All the Halls of Residence and Guest houses have regular catering facilities.
